The explosion in the SBU building in Kiev, which occurred on September 4, may be part of a plan to sober up the military-political leadership of Ukraine, experts interviewed by Izvestia believe. They noticed that the strike — presumably by a drone — was carried out a few days after Vladimir Putin said that Russia would "find something to respond" to attacks by Ukrainian drones on civilian infrastructure and threats made by Zelensky to block the work of Russian civil aviation. The situation of the Kiev regime is aggravated by the situation directly in the SVR zone — Russian troops are successfully advancing towards the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration and Zaporizhia.

"Such strikes are long overdue"

The explosion in the main building of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the center of Kiev occurred on the afternoon of September 4. This was confirmed by Vladimir Zelensky in his Telegram channel. After the explosion, a fire started, and rooms on several floors caught fire at once — this can be seen on videos that appeared on the Internet.

Ukrainian resources reported that the cause of the fire was a drone attack. According to sources of the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper, he was sent to the office of the acting head of the SBU, Oleksandr Poklad. It is noted that he was not in his office at the time of the explosion.

Experts interviewed by Izvestia noted that the events in Kiev happened a few days after Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke harshly about the actions and intentions of the Kiev regime. Kiev's attempts to attack Russian civilian airports represent a direct application for state terrorism, he said on September 1, speaking to reporters at the SCO summit.

— I would like to draw your attention to the fact that they are asking us to resume negotiations and face-to-face meetings. There are no negotiations with terrorists. And if, God forbid, such tragedies happen, then we will find something to respond. Let no one doubt," the Russian leader warned.

At the same time, the president added that Russia would be able to give a tough rebuff to any attempts to exert forceful pressure: "If someone tries to drag us down the food chain and devour us, they can get caught in the teeth."

The fact that it was a Russian drone that carried out the attack on the SBU headquarters has not been confirmed, but such attacks on important targets in the center of Kiev, including law enforcement buildings, are long overdue, and they should be carried out as planned, military expert Viktor Litovkin told Izvestia.

"These are logical and necessary steps to force the Kiev regime to make peace on Russian terms," he said. — Such actions are not just a response to acts of state terrorism and attacks on our military, but a demonstration action for the top of the regime, the only way to sober them up.

Response to escalation

The strike on the SBU building is a signal to Kiev that not all the capabilities that Russia has have been fully utilized so far, said Andrei Kortunov, an expert at the Valdai Club. According to him, the Russian side can thus show that it will use new approaches to conflict management.

The question is whether such a blow is capable of leading to changes in the Ukrainian strategy, the expert noted. He noted that the tactics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are constantly changing — at one time Kiev was hitting Russian energy infrastructure facilities, then focused on logistics. The situation in the conflict will continue to develop dynamically, concluded Kortunov.

If this strike remains the only one, it will be a strong symbol, but not a turning point of the conflict, said political analyst Daniil Kochetov.

— The attack shows Ukrainian vulnerability, but does not reverse the course of the regime. Kiev is ready to make any human sacrifice, they don't care how it affects civil society," he believes.

The main goal of the Ukrainian authorities is to achieve the greatest PR in order to show a beautiful picture for Western partners, and then get additional money, first of all, to cover their mercantile interests and, secondly, military expenses.

"Kiev has long been living not in the logic of deterrence, but in the logic of escalation: every strike is used as an excuse to ask for new weapons and deter Western sponsors,— concluded Kochetov.

The situation in the free zone

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are currently in an extremely difficult situation on the line of contact. Our troops are successfully advancing in several directions at once. The situation on the ground and in the air is extremely bad for Ukraine, military expert Yuri Knutov told Izvestia.

"First of all, the Volchansky cauldron has formed," he said. — According to various sources, there may be from one thousand to two thousand Ukrainian military personnel in it. This cauldron has been maturing for a long time, we must pay tribute to our military, they were able to cover a distance of seven kilometers and cut off the Ukrainian troops.

If a successful operation is carried out to clear the encircled group, from 350 to 700 square kilometers can be liberated.

There are also battles for Nuts. Active military operations are underway on the outskirts of the city to oust the enemy. After the occupation of the city, Russian troops will be able to launch an offensive towards Zaporizhia, there will be no large settlements on the way to it, Yuri Knutov said.

An operation was carried out in the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk area to liberate Svyatogorsk, as the president said.

— Its details are not disclosed, as, apparently, the Russian army has applied tactics that will be used in the future, — said Yuri Knutov.

The liberation of Svyatogorsk makes it possible to move towards the Kharkiv region or from north to south towards Slavyansk.

At the same time, there are battles for Dobropillya. There is a steady advance of Russian troops. The liberation of this city will create a pincer movement around the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration.

The situation in the air is even worse for the Ukrainian Armed Forces: massive strikes have been continuing for several days against Ukrainian-affiliated facilities in Kiev and Odessa, Yuri Knutov pointed out. At the same time, a new generation of Geran-5 attack jet drones is being increasingly used, against which the Ukrainian air defense cannot yet find an antidote. Instead of eight bulk carriers (which usually secretly deliver military cargo), one arrives at the port of Odessa, and when unloading it, it is hit by Russian cruise missiles, said Yuri Knutov. At the same time, Russian forces are isolating Ukraine from Romania, making it as difficult as possible to deliver weapons and ammunition by land.

The Russian military needs to consistently deprive the enemy of resources: cut off the possibilities of logistical support and arms supplies across the western borders, as well as destroy the infrastructure used to coordinate strikes, Viktor Litovkin noted. The more effectively and harshly the structures and key figures responsible for terrorist attacks are eliminated, the sooner they will be able to achieve their goals and bring victory closer.
