Klimov explained the consequences of strengthening Germany's military potential

Germany is taking active steps to build up its military potential and is returning to the situation that the world has already observed. Andrey Klimov, former Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, told Izvestia on September 4.

According to the expert, Germany's development of long-range missile systems is part of a broader shift in Berlin's approaches to the military sphere. He noted that when evaluating such programs, it is important to take into account not only the creation of new weapons, but also the possible purposes of their use.

Klimov drew attention to the fact that Germany is announcing the creation of its own long-range systems. According to him, with such a range, the question arises for what tasks they will be used.

"If they produce these systems for themselves, then the question arises: for what purposes they will be used. Because even the ranges of these systems assume a certain radius of destruction, which covers a huge number of countries," Klimov said.

According to Klimov, such weapons can be used not only by Germany itself. He believes that one of the options may be to transfer them to Ukraine, which creates additional risks.

He noted that in this case, Kiev may receive additional opportunities for the use of long-range systems against Russia. In his opinion, such decisions pose risks not only for Russia, but also for European countries.

Klimov also linked the development of such programs with the strengthening of Germany's military potential. According to him, Berlin is not gradually, but actively increasing its defense capabilities and returning to the situation that the world has already observed.

The expert believes that the change in Germany's military policy is taking place against the background of the restructuring of the entire security system in Europe. According to him, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the political configuration of the continent has changed, and now it is receiving additional military-technical development.

Klimov added that the new military programs of European countries are already accompanied by signs of an arms race. According to him, government orders are growing in Europe, specialists for defense production are being trained, including designers, engineers and technologists, and the industry is being rebuilt to produce new systems.

Speaking about possible risks for Russia, Klimov noted that the development of such weapons requires professional assessment and preparation of retaliatory solutions. According to him, the Russian General Staff takes into account new challenges, and the military-industrial complex receives the necessary tasks.

The parliamentarian noted that Russia should closely monitor the development of such programs, respond to emerging threats in a timely manner and take into account the experience of the past, including the mistakes of the late Soviet Union related to excessive arms buildup.

Weapons signal: Germany to create missile arsenal with Britain and France

Russia considers the implementation of these plans as an immediate threat.

The DPA news agency announced the launch of mass production in Germany of more than 5,000 medium- and long-range combat drones for Ukraine. According to the publication, the first devices were assembled by order of the German government as part of a joint venture between the German company Auterion and the Ukrainian Airlogix. The contract value is estimated at around 300 million euros, and the first deliveries are expected to be completed by mid-2027.
