Maria Tuskesigi, psychologist, integrative psychotherapist, current member of the OPPL, member of the Association of Psychodrama and FEPTO, told how a psychologist differs from a psychiatrist.

In conversation with the agency RuNews24.Ru On September 2, the specialist noted that the psychologist's job is not just to listen to the client. During the consultation, the specialist analyzes words, intonations, emotions and non-verbal reactions, compares them with the person's history, forms hypotheses and, if necessary, changes the work strategy.

Another task of a psychologist is to create a safe space in which a person can openly talk about difficult experiences without fear of condemnation. A specialist helps you look at the situation from the other side, notice recurring scenarios and independently find possible solutions.

In addition, such work requires emotional stability: the psychologist needs to withstand the strong feelings of the client, while maintaining clarity of thinking. The cost of the consultation also consists of professional training of a specialist, including training, personal therapy and supervision.

At the same time, the psychologist and the psychiatrist solve different tasks. A psychiatrist is a doctor who can diagnose mental disorders and prescribe medication. The psychologist does not prescribe medications and works with feelings, behavior and life difficulties using psychological methods.

In June, Alexander Fedorovich, a psychiatrist, told us how to distinguish a psychologist from a fraudster. He noted that most patients are not interested in the qualifications of a specialist and rarely check his education or professional documents.
