- The cosmetologist spoke about the benefits and risks of products with PDRN for the face
Polynucleotide products, often referred to as "salmon DNA" cosmetics, have become one of the most popular trends in modern cosmetology. However, the effectiveness of such products depends on the form of application: injection procedures with PDRN can trigger skin repair processes, while creams and serums have a more limited effect. On September 6, dermatologist and cosmetologist Elmira Jalilova-Tariverdiyeva told Izvestia about this.
According to the expert, polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRNS) are purified DNA fragments that are obtained from the milk of salmon fish. Due to the similarity of the molecular structure with human DNA, the component has a high biocompatibility and is used in cosmetology to stimulate skin repair processes.
"Polynucleotides work at the cellular level: they activate tissue repair, improve the synthesis of collagen and hyaluronic acid, reduce inflammation and promote regeneration. Therefore, after procedures with PDRN, the skin becomes denser, firmer, and its texture improves," explained Jalilova-Tariverdieva.
The expert noted that initially polynucleotides were used in regenerative medicine for tissue repair and wound healing, and then became widespread in aesthetic cosmetology. Now the component is added not only to drugs for injection, but also to home care products.
At the same time, according to the doctor, the main factor of effectiveness remains the method of delivering the substance to the skin. When injected, PDRN enters deeper layers of tissues and can affect regeneration processes.
"In injectable cosmetology, PDRN really works because it penetrates into the deep layers of the skin and triggers regeneration processes there. But when the same component is added to a cream or serum, the effectiveness is already significantly lower. Because the skin is a barrier, and large DNA molecules physically cannot overcome it in sufficient volume," said the cosmetologist.
According to her, when applied externally, polynucleotides can affect mainly the upper layers of the skin. Manufacturers use various active ingredient delivery systems, but even in this case, the result of creams and serums remains more superficial compared to procedures.
Products with PDRN in home care can have a moisturizing and soothing effect, improve the appearance of the skin and maintain its condition. However, you should not expect a result comparable to injection procedures.
The expert also noted that when choosing cosmetics with polynucleotides, it is important to pay attention to the composition and concentration of the component. According to her, the effect develops gradually in home remedies and requires regular use.
However, PDRN should not be considered as a substitute for professional procedures. According to Jalilova-Tariverdiyeva, home care with this component can be an addition to cosmetology techniques and help maintain the result.
On August 17, dermatologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Yulia Gallyamova told how bed linen affects the skin condition. According to her, this organ has its own microbiome, a community of microorganisms that helps maintain protective functions. With conditions such as acne, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis and eczema, the skin becomes more sensitive to external stimuli.
