According to them, the head of the White House supported this idea, saying that "economic pressure on Iran will be enough for Tehran to make concessions sooner or later." However, so far President Trump has not definitively decided on his strategy towards Iran, the newspaper notes. Currently, about 50,000 American troops and 19 warships remain in the Middle East, including two aircraft carriers and 13 missile destroyers.

The US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, secretly decided to extend the stay of the United States troops in the Middle East until 2027.

"At the beginning of the conflict between the United States and Iran, Hegset promised a blitzkrieg, but in the sixth month of the war, the Minister of Defense imperceptibly increased the deployment of American forces in the Middle East, which indicates that the conflict is likely to continue next year," the article says.

As the conflict drags on, the time spent by American troops in the region is also increasing. Crews of warships, air defense units and paratroopers are among the forces ordered to stay in the region longer than expected, sources told the publication.

According to one of the sources, the standard deployment period for air defense units has increased from nine to twelve months, and some units have been in the combat zone for more than a year.

According to a letter sent by the US military leadership to the families of military personnel, the Pentagon may also leave units of the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army in the Middle East until 2027, the newspaper writes.

The crew of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt was also warned that their mission would last longer than usual. All this is part of Washington's military strategy, designed to provide Trump with options for action in the war, sources say.

Former senior US Navy official Brian Clark believes that the decision to leave American aircraft carriers in the region indicates that the Trump administration wants to maintain powerful offensive capabilities in the event of an escalation of hostilities.
