Scientists have dispelled a common myth about the dangers of cutting boards
The laboratory at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics conducted a comparative study of cutting boards made of plastic, wood, glass and acrylic and did not reveal significant differences in their hygienic safety.
During the experiment, the surfaces were contaminated with minced meat, and then cleaned with water with detergent, a dry cloth, or in a dishwasher. Both new boards and samples with artificial wear, simulating long-term use, were examined. Lenta.Ru Thursday, September 3rd.
Microbiological analysis did not reveal a pronounced growth of microorganisms after the prescribed purification. No significant difference was found between the materials when examining worn surfaces. Although micro-damages appeared on all types of boards, it was not possible to establish their relationship with the level of microbial contamination.
Ksenia Sukhareva, Head of the Basic Department of Quality Industry at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Associate Professor, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, noted that the safety of cutting boards depends primarily on compliance with hygiene rules and proper care, and not on the material from which they are made.
Also on September 3, gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh, in an interview with RT, said that the main problem of reusable bottles is insufficient hygiene. Modern models with tubes, valves and silicone spouts can be difficult to rinse, especially in hard-to-reach places. During the day, bacteria get inside from the mouth, from the hands, from the lid, from the air, and a warm, humid environment helps them to multiply.
In August, biologist Dmitry Safonov warned that dishwashers are the leaders in collecting dirt, and they need to be changed every week. Bacteria multiply most actively in heat and high humidity in the presence of organic residues that serve as a breeding ground for them.
Prior to this, experts noted that some of the items in the house pose a potential danger to humans if they are not regularly changed. Kitchen sponges, rags and wooden spatulas can accumulate moisture and become a breeding ground for bacteria, so they need to be washed and changed regularly, writes NSN. The body washcloth should be thoroughly dried and replaced approximately once a month. 360.ru .
Rospotrebnadzor recalled the recommendations on hygiene in the kitchen. So, it is recommended to change kitchen towels daily. For the primary processing of products in the kitchen, it is necessary to have separate brushes for washing root crops and separate sponges for processing sinks, the Moscow city News agency reports.
