The ceremony began with two strokes of the bell. The participants honored the victims with a minute of silence, after which 334 white balloons were launched into the sky. A procession with portraits of the dead was also held.

The terrorist attack took place on September 3, 2004 in the gymnasium of school No. 1 in Beslan. After the explosions, the storming of the building began. As a result of the tragedy, 334 people died, including 186 children.

At a meeting with the head of the Republic of North Ossetia —Alania, Sergey Menyailo, on February 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that terrorist attacks, including the terrorist attack on the Beslan school in 2004, are a nationwide pain, and they should not be forgotten. He stressed that the Beslan development program should not be closed and it is necessary to continue to deal with both the city and the rehabilitation of victims.
