Teachers in Russia are increasingly changing their region of work, and this has become a systematic process, Natalia Tarasova, a leading researcher at the Higher School of Economics' Scientific and Educational Development Center at the Presidential Academy, said in a conversation with Izvestia.

The real burden on teachers in Russia has exceeded the norm and has begun to threaten the quality of education

In regions with the most acute staff shortages, the burden on school teachers often increases to one and a half to two rates, which stimulates the search for a more attractive job, the expert explained.

"Social conditions are equally important: the availability of housing, transport and medical care, the availability of places in kindergartens and schools — in general, everything that determines the quality of life. Opportunities for professional and career growth, continuing education and advanced training are also important," she added.

According to the editorial's interlocutor, teachers have been moving more actively in recent years under the Zemsky Uchitel program. However, the nature of such mobility has changed.

"Teachers who are ready to participate in the program are increasingly trying not to move to the other side of the country, but to find a new place of work in their own or neighboring region. The willingness for professional mobility is growing, but at the same time people are striving to maintain their usual social and family ties," Natalia Tarasova said.
