According to a survey of more than 10,000 Russians, more than half (53%) are currently in the process of choosing a car, planning to start a search, or have recently purchased a car. Among them, 78% are ready to use a loan under suitable conditions. On September 3, experts from Avito Advertising and Avito Auto told Izvestia about this.

According to the results of the study, 36% of respondents plan to use a loan to buy a car of a higher class, another third — to upgrade the car to a more recent model. One in six (16%) noted that such a decision is related to the expansion of the family — the birth of a child and new needs.

The main factor for respondents is a comfortable monthly payment for the budget — 39% of respondents named it. Another 27% are ready to consider a loan if the conditions are clear, without hidden fees and imposed services. For 17%, a small down payment is important, and 15% are ready to apply for a loan if possible to repay it ahead of schedule without penalties. According to the study, on average, a car loan is issued for 3.5 years, but it is planned to be repaid in 2.7 years. At the same time, 67% of respondents already have experience in car loans and successfully use this tool to plan a purchase.

Almost half of the respondents consider a comfortable monthly payment in the range of 30 thousand to 50 thousand rubles — 51% of respondents chose this option. Another 8% are willing to pay from 50,000 to 75,000 rubles per month, and 11% allow payments over 75,000 rubles. On average, a comfortable monthly payment was 52 thousand rubles.

When choosing the terms of financing, the majority of Russians surveyed are guided by the minimum initial payment. Almost a third of the respondents (30%) expect to contribute up to 10% of the cost of the car, another 18% are ready to contribute from 11 to 25%. Every fifth respondent (22%) would prefer to make a purchase without a down payment at all. At the same time, many people deliberately increase the initial payment in order to reduce the loan amount and shorten the loan amount or term.

On July 30, experts announced an increase in the availability of car loans in Russia. In the second quarter of 2026, the average loan rate for new cars in Russia decreased to 10.1%, and the amount of car loans decreased relative to the results of the first quarter.
