The first Moskvich car with a hybrid powertrain will be a model based on the M70 crossover. This was announced on September 2 by the general director of the automobile plant Elena Frolova.

The head of Moskvich shared with TASS that the plant has already installed robotic welding for this model. The release of the hybrid version of the M70 is scheduled for 2027, while the company is trying to speed up the process.

Frolova told Izvestia about plans to launch production of hybrid cars in March, when the Moskvich M70 went on sale along with the larger M90 model. Currently, the junior crossover is offered in two versions — with a 1.5-liter turbo engine (150 hp) and a seven-speed "robot" and a two-liter turbocharged unit (200 hp) combined with a nine-speed automatic. The price of the first version starts from 3.1 million rubles, the second — from 3.5 million rubles.

In addition, Frolova shared that by the end of 2026, Moskvich plans to produce about 5-6 thousand cars from the new M-line, while the total production volume will be more than 20 thousand cars. In August, sales of the brand's cars amounted to about 1.2 thousand units. It is expected that in September the sales volume will be about 1.2-1.5 thousand units, the top manager noted.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has unveiled a new Range Rover Electric SUV, the first all-electric model in the range. The production of the new product is organized in the UK at a modernized facility in Solihull.
