Hungary has again blocked the opening of the second and third clusters of negotiations on Ukraine and Moldova's accession to the European Union (EU). This was reported on September 2 by the Euractiv portal with reference to EU diplomats and an official.

"Hungary has once again blocked progress in [EU] membership negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, suspending discussions on access to the single market and social policy," the publication says.

Hungary refers to the need for Ukraine to implement a bilateral agreement on the rights of ethnic Hungarians, the newspaper adds.Ru». The opening of the negotiation cluster requires the support of all 27 EU countries.

Hungary blocked the start of negotiations on Ukraine's further integration into the EU on July 29. Budapest opposed Ukraine's accelerated accession to the Union. The country's leadership believes that Ukraine should not receive "concessions" while the Balkan candidates have been carrying out reforms for years to comply with EU requirements. EU officials said they were allowing "political pressure on Hungary" to force Budapest to support the union's course.
