The Ministry of Transport pointed to the prospects of transport corridors thanks to the NSR

The cargo turnover of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) clearly shows the prospects for the development of transport corridors in Russia. This was stated on September 2 by Boris Tashimov, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, at the session "The Far East in the architecture of transport Corridors: from a logistics hub to a driver of economic growth" at the Eastern Economic Forum.

He noted that the Russian Federation is striving to effectively attract additional volumes of goods with a large reserve. According to him, transport corridors should not compete with each other, but complement each other.

"We potentially assume that many projects that were completed some time ago...> retired — Primorye-1 and Primorye-2 — <... They will also potentially reach their promising cargo turnover," Tashimov stressed.

How much investment will be required and how will it affect export flows

Earlier in the day, Alexey Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, told Izvestia that Russia plans to transport up to 100 million tons of cargo through the NSR by 2030 and is creating a Transarctic transport corridor to fulfill this task.

There is interest in the project abroad. Thus, according to Chekunkov, China has already signed a plan to transport 20 million tons of its goods along the Northern Sea Route by 2030. At the same time, the payment for the use of the transport corridor, as the minister noted, will be "calibrated" so that the transported facilities remain competitive.
