A Russian citizen with Swedish citizenship was sentenced to 14 years for financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine

A citizen of Russia and Sweden received 14 years in a high-security penal colony and a fine of 200,000 rubles for transferring money to a militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on September 2 by the FSB's Public Relations Center.

"By the court's decision, the defendant was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 14 years to be served in a high—security penal colony, two years of restriction of liberty and a fine of 200 thousand rubles," the department said.

Maxim Artyomov, born in 1978, who had a criminal record under Article 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Robbery"), after his release in 2002, went to Sweden, where he later obtained citizenship. In 2021, the man moved to Odessa, and in 2024 he transferred money to a militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. When Artyomov arrived in Russia, FSB officers detained him at one of the international airports.

The man was found guilty of committing a crime under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("High treason in the form of providing financial assistance to a foreign state, international or foreign organization or their representatives in activities directed against the security of the Russian Federation").
