Chekunkov announced plans to carry up to 100 million tons of cargo along the NSR by 2030

Russia plans to transport up to 100 million tons of cargo along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) by 2030 and is creating the Transarctic Transport Corridor (TTC) to achieve this goal. Alexey Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, told Izvestia on September 2 on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

"Our own goal is well known: [to transport] from 70 to 100 million tons along the NSR, but cargo needs to be created, and for this purpose a project is being created to develop the Transarctic transport corridor. These are almost 300 projects with a total volume of 32 trillion rubles," he explained in an interview with Izvestia correspondent Alexei Poltoranin.

It is noted that there is interest in the project abroad. Thus, according to Chekunkov, China has already signed a plan to transport 20 million tons of its goods along the Northern Sea Route by 2030. At the same time, the payment for the use of the transport corridor, as the minister noted, will be "calibrated" so that the transported facilities remain competitive.

"There will definitely be nothing like the Strait of Hormuz. I think the icebreaker wiring fee will remain. Simply because an icebreaker is an expensive tool that needs to be recouped," Chekunkov stressed.

The day before, Chekunkov, telling Izvestia correspondent Anton Zolotnitsky about the advantages of the TTK, stressed that the new project would connect Europe and Asia in a new way. The implementation of the relevant initiative, he said, will also help the country enter new markets and discover previously unexplored export niches.
