Zhovner noted the importance of her medal at the World Rowing Championships for Russia

Maria Jovner, silver medalist at the World Rowing Championships in the Netherlands, admitted that she had hoped for a gold medal, but the result was an equally important achievement, both in her personal list of victories and for Russian sports in general. She stated this to Izvestia on September 1.

"This is my first medal at the adult World Championship, so I think it's important for everyone — for me, for the team, and for Russian sports, too," she explained.

Jovner noted that the athlete from Mexico, who won gold, had been her main rival since last year.

"This is also her first gold medal at the World Championships, <...> she has been rowing for a very long time, she has been striving for this result for 20 years, so it's not even a pity for her to lose," the girl clarified.

Maria added that she had no worries before the start — the training schedule was very tight, and she fully trusted the professionalism of the coaches. At the same time, Zhovner stated that she was not going to stop there.

"I expect to compete in the Olympic class next year, win medals there in order to declare myself in the pre—Olympic year, get a license and go to the Olympics in the Olympic class," she said.

Alexander Zyuzin, the head coach of the Russian national rowing team, noted that the Russians had a pretty good season. According to him, after one medal at the World Championships, the national team will strive for the best. Zyuzin expressed hope that the results will be much higher next year.
