Putin suggested giving the Armenian people a choice on joining the EU

The people of Armenia should be given the opportunity to resolve the issue of the country's accession to the European Union (EU). Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this at a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Bishkek on September 1.

Putin proposed holding a referendum on this issue and called on Yerevan to decide on its future course as soon as possible — cooperation with the EU or continued participation in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
