The doctor listed the causes of daytime sleepiness
Somnologist, MD, Professor, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation Roman Buzunov spoke about the causes of daytime sleepiness even after a full night's rest. In conversation with aif.ru On Monday, August 31, he noted that, firstly, seven to eight hours of sleep is simply not enough for some people.
The individual need for sleep ranges from four to 12 hours. To determine your norm, the doctor advises you to increase your sleep time by 30-60 minutes for one to two weeks and assess your well-being. The second reason is the habit of sleeping it off on weekends. The big difference between weekday and weekend wake-up times knocks down circadian rhythms. A stable mode, especially the same wake-up time, will help to correct the situation.
Unsuitable conditions in the bedroom can also interfere with proper rest: noise, light, heat or cold, uncomfortable mattress and pillow. Because of this, sleep becomes more shallow and intermittent.
In addition, daytime sleepiness may be associated with a deficiency of iron, vitamins B and D, thyroid disorders, anxiety, neurosis or depression.
Another possible cause is sleep disorders. Among the most common, Buzunov identified obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, in which there are numerous respiratory stops, and restless legs syndrome. Both disorders make sleep shallow and prevent full recovery.
If other reasons are excluded, but the person still wakes up exhausted, especially if he snores, Buzunov recommends contacting a somnologist. A specialist may prescribe polysomnography to determine the cause of sleep disorders.
Before that, in August, Valeria Bonadykova, a somnologist, cardiologist and functional diagnostics doctor, said that with the onset of autumn, many people begin to feel increased drowsiness and decreased energy due to a reduction in daylight hours and changes in the body's biological clock. The main role in this process is played not by the weather, but by the amount of natural light that a person receives.
