Iran shot down an American MQ-9 drone over the Strait of Hormuz
The forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance drone over the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on August 31 by the IRGC press service.
"A few minutes ago, an American MQ-9 long—range drone was shot down by IRGC anti-aircraft fighter missiles over the Strait of Hormuz," the Fars news agency quoted the IRGC as saying in a Telegram channel.
It is specified that after that the drone fell into the waters of the Persian Gulf.
On August 30, Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported that the US Armed Forces had attacked two launchers on Larek Island in southern Iran, killing two people and injuring two others. In response to the US attack, Iran attacked two American air bases in Jordan.
The Central Command of the US Armed Forces later stated that the purpose of the strikes on Iran was to "prevent the mining" of the Strait of Hormuz.
