- The Russian Foreign Ministry reported on Kiev's refusal to take away a huge number of dead bodies.
The Ukrainian authorities refuse to take the bodies of the dead soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), despite the proposals of the Russian side. This was announced on August 31 by Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik.
According to him, the Russian side offered Kiev to organize humanitarian pauses for the evacuation of bodies, as the death toll is enormous. However, the Ukrainian leadership accepts such proposals only as a last resort due to political reasons.
"We offered the Ukrainian side to come pick up the bodies themselves, to make a humanitarian pause so that they could pick up the bodies of their military, because there were a lot of them," Miroshnik said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The diplomat explained that official Kiev hides the real data on losses in order to avoid paying compensation to the families of the victims. According to him, we are talking about significant sums of money.
"Kiev is stretching this procedure as much as possible, trying to impose a lot of details on it in order to complicate the procedure for paying money and compensating families of Ukrainian servicemen as much as possible," the ambassador—at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
On August 17, law enforcement agencies reported that relatives of dozens of militants of the 1st border detachment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were unsuccessfully trying to determine the fate of their loved ones who had gone missing in the Ustinovka area of the Kharkiv region.
Igor Korotchenko, a military analyst and editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, reported on August 12 that since the beginning of this year, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have exceeded 280 thousand militants.
