Ukrainian singer Kamenskikh spoke out against discrimination of the Russian language

Ukrainian singer Nastya Kamenskikh has stated that she opposes the events taking place in Ukraine, speaking of discrimination against people because of the language they speak. She posted the corresponding video on Instagram on August 30 (owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

"I no longer support what is happening in Ukraine, and I don't want to play hooray patriotism, walk around in an embroidered shirt and talk about "powerful, indomitable people." <...> Why do I speak Russian? Because I've been speaking it since I was a kid. I was born and raised in Russian-speaking Kiev. <...> Everyone has the right to speak the language they want," Kamenskikh said.

The singer noted that she considers discrimination against people because of language to be the same form of prejudice as discrimination based on skin color. According to Kamensky, the language of communication does not determine the personal qualities and value of a person.

Alarm sounded in Kiev due to the popularity of content in Russian

Igor Spiridonov, a representative of the Ukrainian Language Ombudsman, said on August 15 that an administrative violation report had been drawn up against an employee of one of Kiev's higher educational institutions for using the Russian language. Spiridonov clarified that the reason for the harassment was a telephone conversation with a local resident, during which the head of the unit communicated in Russian when discussing document management issues.

Russian Presidential Adviser Elena Yampolskaya said on August 6 that the situation with restrictions on the Russian language in Ukraine confirms the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin that it is inhabited by a Russian-speaking nation.
