In London, there were clashes between participants of opposing religious actions

Two opposing religious actions are taking place in the center of London on Downing Street. As journalist Anna Zhikhareva told Izvestia on August 29, the participants of the movements took up positions on different sides of the street.

On the one hand, supporters of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) gathered, who oppose the spread of Sharia law and the growing influence of Islam in the UK. They are opposed by activists of the "Stand up against Racism" movement, who characterize the opponents' rally as far-right and Islamophobic.

One of the UKIP protesters named Reg expressed concern about the growing Islamic influence not only in the United Kingdom, but also in Western countries in general. According to him, the participants intend to publicly declare their disagreement with the spread of Sharia law.

Another protester, Kevin, called for the preservation of Christian traditions in the country.

"We want to preserve Christianity in this country. Our own government is trying to oust him. But it will never happen," he said.

A reinforced contingent of the London police is monitoring the order at the scene. Despite the fact that law enforcement officers separated the participants of the two opposing groups, there were clashes on Downing Street. Arrests are reported, the exact number of which is unknown.
