Ukrainian judoka Vadim Chernov refused to shake hands with Russian Ramazan Abdulaev after the fight for bronze in Lausanne. The meeting took place on August 28 and ended with the victory of the Russian.

The fight was held in the weight category up to 66 kg. After the fight, the Russian approached Chernov, but the Ukrainian judoka refused to shake his hand.

Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Dmitry Vasilyev said on August 26 that Ukrainian athletes depend on political influence and are forced to follow the instructions of the authorities. According to Vasilyev, Ukrainian athletes adhere to certain guidelines, because otherwise they may face consequences when participating in the next international competitions.

On June 7, the European Arm Wrestling Federation fined Ukrainian para-wrestlers Dmitry Lutsishin and Leonid Sidorchuk for refusing to listen to the Russian national anthem during the award ceremony at the European Championships in Budapest. Russian athlete Andrey Gavrilov became the winner of the tournament, Sidorchuk took the second place, and Lutsishin took the third. During the performance of the Russian national anthem in honor of the winner, both representatives of Ukraine left the podium.
