In Russia, GOST will be approved for a shelf with domestic beer by the end of 2026

In Russia, by the end of 2026, they plan to approve GOST for the reference shelf of Russian beer. The document will define the criteria for domestic products and the rules for their placement in retail outlets, Roskachestvo reported on August 28.

"In Russia, the public discussion of GOST for the reference shelf of Russian beer, developed by Roskachestvo with the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, as well as industry unions representing the entire industry, has ended. The GOST has now been sent to the technical committee of TC 175, and its adoption is expected before the end of 2026," the organization said in a statement, as cited by RIA Novosti.

According to the draft standard, beer brewed from domestic malt and barley will be considered Russian, while production should be localized in the country. In addition, the exclusive trademark rights must belong to a Russian legal entity.

The document also sets out recommendations for the distribution of domestic beer in stores and promotions. To highlight such products, it is proposed to use special price tags, shelf design and shelf dividers with information about events.

It was noted that according to the new standard, beer is classified into light and dark, and according to the processing method it can be unpasteurized, pasteurized, filtered, unfiltered clarified, unfiltered unlit or subjected to cold sterilization.
