The media reported on the shooting during the evacuation of the UNRWA complex in East Jerusalem

The evacuation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem ended with gunfire, as a result of which five people were injured. This was reported on August 27 by the Israeli news portal Kikar HaShabbat, citing sources.

According to the newspaper, the operation took place with the participation of units of the border Guard Service, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Jerusalem district police. Security forces evacuated the complex as part of a major operational mission.

"The joint operation to evacuate the UNRWA compound in East Jerusalem ended with the shooting of stone throwers," the article says.

During the operation, law enforcement officers found a group of people on the roof of one of the buildings of the complex. According to representatives of law enforcement agencies, people who were there began throwing stones at employees who worked on the territory.

It is specified that the security forces regarded this as a threat to life and identified the source of the throws. After that, fire was opened on the people on the roof, as a result of which five people were injured.

On August 25, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the start of the evacuation of the UNRWA complex in Jerusalem in accordance with the law prohibiting its activities on Israeli territory. Netanyahu said that Tel Aviv would not allow the organization, whose employees were involved in the October 7 terror, to operate on its territory and would fight it by all means.
