Half of the Russian car fleet accounted for 15 regions of the country.

As of mid-2026, there were 47.7 million passenger cars in Russia. The 15 largest regions of the country account for almost half (49.9%) of its fleet (23.8 million units), Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said in his Telegram channel on August 27.

Most cars are registered in Moscow (4.1 million units) and the Moscow region (3 million units). The Krasnodar Territory is in third place in terms of volume (2.09 million units), followed by St. Petersburg (1.8 million units) and the Sverdlovsk Region (1.47 million units).

Also among the Russian regions with the most numerous fleets exceeding 1 million passenger cars were the Republic of Tatarstan, the Rostov Region, the Republic of Bashkortostan, as well as the Chelyabinsk, Samara and Nizhny Novgorod regions. The Primorsky and Krasnoyarsk Territories, the Novosibirsk Region and the Stavropol Territory are close to the millionth mark.

In addition, according to the expert, most cars travel on the roads of the Central Federal District (28.5%) and the Volga Region (20%). The Far East (6%) and the North Caucasus (5.3%) are the least affected.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that 444 thousand passenger cars were produced in Russia in the first seven months of 2026, which is 8.2% more than in the same period last year. As for July, in the middle of summer, output decreased by 1.7% year-on-year and amounted to 65.8 thousand cars.
