Pashinyan threatened the security forces with mass dismissals for the failure of the search for "moles"

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has threatened mass dismissals in law enforcement agencies if their staff fails to identify opposition informants in their ranks. He made the corresponding statement at a briefing in the government on Thursday, August 27.

"There is a mole in the system that leaks information from the inside. <...> I set the task for law enforcement agencies, I said find it. If they don't find them in a specific time frame, it means that everyone I see will assume that they are [moles]. And where the issue of decision—making is within my competence, I will make decisions," the head of government said.

Pashinyan stressed that he expects his subordinates to provide specific names and evidence of the involvement of departmental employees in the transfer of data.

"If there are no names and evidence, I declare bluntly: there will be mass dismissals in law enforcement agencies accountable to me, massive. I will enter the building, and I will give the order to fire anyone who catches my eye," he said.

The ex-president of the Republic and his son were detained in Armenia.

On August 25, it became known about the detention of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and his eldest son Sedrak. The Anti-Corruption Committee announced the conduct of searches and other investigative actions at several dozen addresses in the framework of the criminal case on corruption.

The republic's Prosecutor General's Office stated that Kocharyan was accused of abuse of office and involvement in corruption schemes. It was noted that the politician was suspected of taking bribes on a particularly large scale, as well as laundering illegally obtained financial resources. On August 27, the Anti-corruption Court of Armenia decided to detain the ex-president.
