A social campaign on safety at intersections has started in Yakutia
Events of the All-Russian social campaign "Promoting Safety" have started in Yakutia, aimed at reducing the number of accidents at intersections. This was reported to Izvestia on August 27 by the Department of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
The social campaign, initiated by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, takes place within the framework of the national project "Infrastructure for Life" and covers 40 regions of the country with the most difficult situation with accidents at intersections. In Yakutia, the number of such accidents is decreasing: last year, 178 car accidents were recorded at intersections in the republic, which is 6.8% less than a year earlier, the regional Traffic Police noted. The death toll also decreased by 14.3% to 12 people. However, the number of injured in such accidents increased by 3.8%, and 237 people were injured in car accidents at intersections last year, the ministry said.
At the same time, the State Traffic Inspectorate of Yakutia noted an unusual trend: unlike in other regions of the country, where most accidents occur at unregulated intersections, in the republic the majority of such accidents (93 cases) were recorded at intersections of roads where traffic lights are installed. This social campaign is changing the approach in the department's work, Sergey Dmitriev, deputy head of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sakha Republic, said at a press conference dedicated to its launch.
"This is a direct transition from fighting car accidents at intersections to preventing them. Compliance with traffic regulations by all road users is an integral part of the entire transport system," Dmitriev said.
According to Alexander Danilov, head of the Department of the Road Service of the Ministry of Transport and Road Management of Yakutia, preventive work within the framework of the social campaign is carried out in a complex with an emphasis on the most vulnerable categories, primarily children. During its implementation, all educational institutions in Yakutia have developed safe home—school—home routes for students, and they will begin to be tested at the beginning of the new school year, said First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic Nyurgun Pavlov.
The "Safety Promotion" campaign is designed for an audience of different ages and will last until November, the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia noted. These are future drivers who are studying at driving schools, children from five to 14 years old and students. Various events, contests and thematic tasks aimed at improving safety at intersections are planned for each group. The ministry recalled that last year, 40.1 thousand road accidents occurred at intersections in Russia, in which 2,485 people were killed and 51.5 thousand injured.
On August 20, the social campaign "Safety Promotion" was launched in the Leningrad Region, aimed at reducing the number of accidents at intersections. The region has become one of 40 in Russia where a social campaign will be held, implemented within the framework of the federal project "Road Safety" of the national project "Infrastructure for Life".
