This was reported on August 27 in a joint study by the agency Autostat and Gazprombank Autoleasing.

The share of cars under five years of age in the cost structure decreased to 26% against 30.8% a year earlier (167.2 billion rubles). At the same time, the share of cars aged 5-9 years increased to 34.6% (223.1 billion rubles), while the largest expenses still fall on cars older than 10 years — 253.9 billion rubles (39.4%). The largest increase in costs was recorded in the segment of Chinese brands: sales amounted to 33 thousand cars for 68.3 billion rubles (+65% in monetary terms), and their share in costs increased to 10.6%. Russians still spend the most money on European (209.9 billion rubles) and Japanese (201.6 billion rubles). cars. At the same time, the positive dynamics of expenses, in addition to Chinese brands, was noted only for Japanese brands (+13%), while a decrease was recorded in other areas. Analysts attribute the increase in July figures to the high base of last year and continued demand, while the increase in the share of Chinese cars is explained by the active entry into the secondary market of cars previously sold as new.

As reported on August 24, in the first seven months of 2026, Russians' spending on new cars increased by 22% year-on-year and reached 2.51 trillion rubles. At the same time, 424.2 billion rubles were spent on purchases separately in July, and this is the maximum figure for one month this year.
