Moscow Metro will receive more than 300 new cars by the end of the year

This year, the Moscow Metro will receive over 300 new cars, said the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin. It is expected that approximately the same number of new cars will be delivered to the subway annually, the mayor noted in his channel in Maks.

In general, the share of new trains in the metro and on the Moscow Central Ring (MCC) increased to 82% by the end of the first half of 2026, Sobyanin said. According to his forecasts, by 2030 the share of new trains will exceed 90%, and the average age of wagons will decrease to 11 years. "It is important that the regions are involved in their production, thus developing the transport industry of the whole country," wrote the mayor of Moscow.

Sobyanin said that 496 new suburban trains had been purchased since 2011. In 2025, the renovation of trains on the Moscow Central Diameters was fully completed. The head of the capital stressed that "the pace of renewal of the rolling stock of the Central Transport Hub is the highest in the world."

The mayor also recalled the renewal of rolling stock in the Yaroslavl direction. By the end of 2026, passengers will be transported by 35 new last-generation trains "Ivolga 4.0" and "Korolek", which will make up 40% of the total train fleet in this direction.

Summing up the six-month results of the modernization of public transport, the mayor noted that the renovation of the tram fleet has been completed in the capital. There are 604 Russian-made low-floor trams in the city, which are 6.5 years old on average. In addition, Moscow has increased the number of electric buses: by the end of 2026, 3,415 vehicles with an average age of 4.3 years will be employed on urban routes. Another 3,020 electric buses will arrive in Moscow by the end of 2030, Sobyanin said.
