- FIFA welcomes UEFA's refusal to boycott the World Cup among girls under 20 years of age
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has supported the decision of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to abandon the boycott of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. This was announced on August 26 by journalist Rob Harris, citing a FIFA representative.
"FIFA declares that it is "pleased that all qualified teams will participate in the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup," reads a message on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
In addition, according to the journalist, FIFA stated that they are convinced of the ability of football to unite people even in difficult circumstances, and expressed hope to welcome all teams and players to Poland.
On August 26, Reuters reported that UEFA would remove the threat of a boycott of FIFA tournaments after receiving guarantees that it would not sell shares in the world Cups. On Thursday, August 27, at a meeting in Monaco, UEFA representatives will notify the executive committee of the fulfillment of the conditions for the cancellation of the boycott. The organization demanded to completely withdraw the commercial offer and provide guarantees of non-renewal of such plans.
The scandalous plan of the current FIFA president Gianni Infantino was announced on July 28. Infantino intended to attract private investors to finance the merger, which would be carried out through the sale of minority stakes in a new commercial structure related to the rights to tournaments, including the World Cup. The proposal faced strong criticism, resulting in a boycott of all tournaments by UEFA.
Later, on August 6, Infantino apologized for the mistakes made while promoting the FIFA Forward Enterprise project. It was noted that the management of the organization recognized the shortcomings after information about the project appeared in the media. However, UEFA maintained its boycott of FIFA tournaments, despite Infantino's apologies.
