A St. Petersburg man transferred money stolen from a pensioner to scammers and went to prison.

A resident of St. Petersburg got involved in a scheme of Ukrainian fraudsters and went to serve time in a penal colony after helping to extort savings from a pensioner. Izvestia found out the details of what happened on August 26.

The victim of the criminals was an 89-year-old man. Trusting the scammers, he handed over 710 thousand rubles to the courier. After receiving the funds, the 38-year-old from St. Petersburg transferred cash into cryptocurrency and sent it to the account specified by the scammers. For his machinations, he received a percentage of the stolen savings.

It later became clear that the man had participated in similar schemes more than once.

The Krasnogvardeysky district court found the Petersburger guilty of fraud and sentenced him to two years in prison, and also ordered him to compensate the victim.

On August 13, fraudsters in Moscow deceived a teenage girl for 32 million rubles. It is clarified that unknown persons, posing as employees of various organizations, convinced the schoolgirl to name the code from the SMS, after which they stated that the data of her parents had fallen into the hands of intruders. Under threat of criminal liability, the girl handed over the apartment keys to a stranger.
