Insurers pointed to a decrease in the profitability of casco
Casco insurance is becoming less profitable, as payments are growing much more than fees. Mikhail Porvatov, deputy director of the Department for the Development of Property Insurance for Individuals of the All-Russian Union of Insurers (VSS), announced this on Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, the organization's press service reported on August 26 in its Telegram channel.
Porvatov shared that in 2025, casco insurance fees increased by 4.8%, while payments increased by 31.6%. A decrease in profitability leads to an increase in tariffs. In addition, sales of new passenger cars decreased last year, and car loans decreased by almost a third, while the cost of cars themselves, spare parts and repairs continues to rise.
According to the representative of the VCC, although there is an increase in demand for hard hat insurance, customers are moving to cheaper segments — priority is given to products with reduced coverage, for example, policies with a franchise or a mini-hard hat.
"In general, the insurance market shows the following trend: income directly from insurance transactions tends to zero, and insurers earn more from investments. This also applies to motor insurance — CTP and CASCO," Porvatov said.
As reported on August 25, the share of car owners who have not caused an accident for 10 years and have the maximum discount for trouble-free driving has increased in Russia over the past year. The average share of drivers with the minimum value of the bonus-malus coefficient (KBM) in Russia for the period from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 was 43.4%.
