More than 2,000 doses of pneumococcal vaccine were delivered to the Pskov region

More than 2,000 doses of adult pneumococcal vaccine have been delivered to the Pskov Region. The bacterium causes pneumonia, meningitis, otitis media and other dangerous diseases, the press service of the regional Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday, August 26.

Vaccination will protect against severe forms of the disease and reduce the risk of complications. The disease will proceed like a normal acute respiratory viral infection, without risk to life.

People over 65 years of age, people over 60 years of age with chronic lung diseases, conscripts for military service and able-bodied older citizens living in social institutions are subject to vaccination.

You can get vaccinated for free at a polyclinic, a medical clinic, an outpatient clinic, or a general practitioner's office at your place of residence after consulting with a therapist or a paramedic.

As noted by the Pskov news feed, vaccination creates collective immunity. The more people are vaccinated, the fewer bacteria are circulating around. This protects those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.

Earlier it was reported that in the current 2026, the first Russian 16-valent drug against pneumococcal infection will receive a registration certificate. The vaccine was developed based on strains common in Russia.
