The son of the ex-President of Armenia Kocharyan was arrested for two months

A court in Armenia has arrested the son of former President Robert Kocharyan, Sedrak, for two months. This was reported on August 26 by the Sputnik Armenia news agency with reference to his lawyer Alexander Kochubayev.

"Sedrak Kocharyan was arrested for a period of two months — the court granted the request of the investigation after more than five hours of the meeting," the Telegram channel says.

Kochubayev stated that Sedrak Kocharyan was restricted from meeting with his client, allowing visits only to family members — his wife and children. The defender called the court's decision political persecution and claimed a violation of the procedural deadlines when initiating the case.

Key political opponents of Pashinyan have become defendants in criminal cases.

On the morning of August 25, security forces searched the house of Kocharyan's youngest son, deputy of the opposition Armenia faction Levon Kocharyan. Later it became known about the detention of the ex-president himself and his eldest son Sedrak. The Anti-Corruption Committee reported conducting searches and other investigative actions at several dozen addresses in the framework of a criminal case on corruption.

Later, Robert Kocharyan, accompanied by employees of the National Security Service, was taken by ambulance to the hospital from the territory of the Anti-Corruption Court, where he and his son were being interrogated after their detention.

The republic's Prosecutor General's Office stated that Kocharyan was accused of abuse of office and involvement in corruption schemes. It was noted that the politician was suspected of taking bribes on a particularly large scale, as well as laundering illegally obtained financial resources.
