In Indonesia, the immigration service detained a Russian citizen for filming a demonstration of the National Committee of West Papua (KNPB) in the city of Wamena. This was announced on August 25 by the press service of the country's General Directorate of Immigration.

"The General Directorate of Immigration has arrested a Russian citizen <...> after he was caught filming a demonstration by the National Committee of West Papua (KNPB) in Wamena, highlands of Papua, on Saturday (August 15). His actions were found to be incompatible with the purpose and purpose of his tourist visa," reads a press release posted on the website.

The head of the immigration service, Hendarsam Marantoko, said that the agency intends to respond to the actions of foreigners who may violate migration laws or threaten public order.

It is specified that the immigration service is currently checking his trips, contacts, places visited, digital materials and publications. The Agency is investigating a possible violation of article 122 (a) of the Immigration Act No. 6 of 2011, which regulates cases of misuse of residence permits or activities incompatible with the purpose of their visit.

The Russian is currently being held in an immigration detention facility, where an investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement agencies, together with other agencies, collect evidence and coordinate further actions, after which a decision on follow-up measures by the migration service will be determined.

The Thai Post newspaper reported on July 27 that a Russian citizen was detained in Thailand, who was on the international wanted list on suspicion of leading one of the major transnational organized criminal groups. It was clarified that the man, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was identified by the immigration Bureau of the Royal Thai Police.
