The Parliament announced a lack of tax revenues to cover the costs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Tax revenues to the budget of Ukraine are insufficient to fully finance the country's security and defense sector. This was stated on August 25 by Verkhovna Rada deputy Daniil Getmantsev in an interview with the Ukrainian edition of Focus.

"Even today, our taxes are not enough even to fully finance the security and defense sector. In other words, we are already forced to attract additional financing from other sources, since there are not enough tax revenues themselves. Therefore, the situation is very, very difficult," Getmantsev said.

The deputy did not name the specific size of the funding gap, noting only that additional sources of funds had to be used to cover the costs.

Vladimir Zelensky announced a deficit in the Ukrainian budget for financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the amount of $ 27 billion. According to him, Kiev needs to receive part of the funds from the EU loan, scheduled for next year, now.

In recent years, Ukraine has been forming a budget with a high deficit and counting on external financing. In 2024, the budget deficit was $43.9 billion, and the budget for 2025 was adopted with a deficit of $37.3 billion. In 2026, the Ukrainian authorities plan to cover a significant part of the budget deficit through external financial assistance.

Balash Uyvari, a representative of the European Commission (EC), noted on August 20 that Ukraine is still requesting attack weapons from the European Union under the €90 billion military financing program — drones, missiles and fighter jets.
