Power failure occurred at Shymkent oil Refinery in Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, one of the largest oil refineries in the republic, Shymkent, experienced a power failure. Currently, the power supply has already been restored, the press service of Kazmunaygas reported on August 25.

"Regarding the situation at the Shymkent oil refinery. There was a voltage drop from an external 220 kV power supply source of KEGOC JSC (the operator of the power grids of Kazakhstan. — Ed.)," the TASS company reports.

It is noted that the company is currently operating normally, and one of the technological units is being restarted. Kazmunaygas assured that the incident did not affect the daily production of petroleum products.

Earlier that day, a fire broke out on the territory of the Atyrau Oil Refinery in western Kazakhstan. It is specified that the oil sludge inside the precipitator caught fire. There were no casualties as a result of the incident.

On August 14, there was a malfunction in the electric power system of Kazakhstan. It was caused by a sudden change in the flow of electricity from the Central Asian energy system. The incident triggered the automatic emergency system. Later, the operator of the unified electric power system of Kazakhstan, KEGOC, restored power supply after an emergency failure that caused blackouts in several regions of the country at once.
