Filming of the historical military detective novel "NEW BABYLON" has begun

Filming of the eight-part project will take place in St. Petersburg, Dagestan and in the scenery of the Moskino Film Park.

Roman Evdokimov, Igor Mirkurbanov, Kirill Zaitsev, Anna Snatkina, Daria Zhovner and Valentin Antsiferov will play the main roles in the historical military detective novel "NEW BABYLON". Evgenia Simonova, Alexandra Deten, Yulia Volkova, Alexander Abramovich, Mikhail Tarabukin, Dmitry Lavrov and others are also involved in the series.

The director of photography is Peter Amelin ("ON THE TRAIL OF THE BEAST"). The production of "NEW BABYLON" is being handled by Star Media on behalf of NMG Studios, with the participation of REN TV and with the support of the Institute for Internet Development (ANO IRI). The television premiere will take place on the REN TV channel, the online premiere on Wink.

The plot centers on the confrontation between Semyon Kochevoy (Roman Evdokimov), a MURA operative, and a criminal Noble (Igor Mirkurbanov), who has conceived not just another criminal case, but a large—scale sabotage that threatens the death of thousands of citizens and the inviolability of Soviet borders.

The year is 1942. A recidivist noble who escaped to Moscow from prison kills policeman Andrei Chashchin, a friend of the main character, MURAT operative Semyon Kochevoy. The police find out that the Nobleman, recruited by the Abwehr (military intelligence and counterintelligence of Germany), went from Moscow to Tashkent. A nomadic member of the task force is sent to capture a dangerous criminal. On a business trip, he is accompanied by the widow of a deceased comrade, Evgenia, who went in search of her one—year-old son, who disappeared during the evacuation. The nomad is driven by a sense of revenge, and his professional interests are intertwined with his personal ones. A clash with a noble gives him a chance not only to take revenge on his friend's murderer and save his son, but also to prevent a serious sabotage against the Soviet government in Uzbekistan.

"We will reveal a rarely-seen page in the history of the Great Patriotic War – the evacuation. The action takes place in Tashkent in 1942, where its own war was raging – the confrontation between the militia and banditry. Millions of Soviet citizens, along with factories, institutions, theaters and film studios, evacuated to the rear, thousands of kilometers from home. The bandits followed them there, hoping that there would be no such control in the far rear as in the capital. To help the local operatives restore order, special reinforcement teams from the most experienced employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were sent from Moscow. In our project, we will show how this struggle took place. In addition to the historical context, the series unfolds a deep human drama: the main character has to find the son of his friend, who died at the hands of a bandit," said director Peter Amelin.

Filming of the project will take place in St. Petersburg and Dagestan, as well as in Moscow at the full-scale venues of the Moskino film park – "Moscow in the Time of Constructivism", "Center of Moscow", "European City" and "Cities of the Middle East and Central Asia".
