Tanker off the coast of Oman malfunctioned after being hit by a shell

Off the coast of Oman, an oil tanker suffered engine room damage as a result of an unknown projectile hit and temporarily ceased operation. This was announced on August 24 by the press service of the Office of Maritime Trade Operations of Great Britain (UKMTO).

"The UKMTO has received a report of an incident nine nautical miles northeast of Al-Shishah, Oman. The captain of the oil tanker reports that the vessel was hit by an unknown projectile, which damaged the engine room and disabled the vessel," the website says.

According to reports, the crew members were not injured and are safe, while there is no information about possible damage to the environment.

Earlier, the Russian president instructed the Navy to cover the domestic merchant fleet.

The UKMTO reported earlier in the day that a tanker caught fire near the coast of Saudi Arabia after the attack. It was noted that the incident occurred 63 nautical miles (about 116 km) from the city of Yanbu al-Bahr.
