The US Treasury Department has announced the imposition of sanctions against more than 60 organizations, individuals and vessels associated with Iran. This was announced on August 24 by the head of the American department, Scott Bessent.

"We believe that a warning shot and a certain level of expectations are quite appropriate. And if people don't want to meet our expectations, then we expect — and they should expect, too — that they will exit the dollar system," Bessent said during a press conference.

The head of the US Treasury Department noted that the purpose of the new restrictions is to end financial ties, which, according to Washington, support the Iranian leadership.

"Our goal is to cut all the economic threads that support this tyrannical regime until Tehran remains completely isolated," he said.

Bessent also stated that the United States intends to block the sources of financing for Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to him, US President Donald Trump is holding talks with the leaders of other countries and urges them to stop cooperation with Tehran.

On the same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that the new US sanctions would not be able to defeat Tehran and indicated Washington's desperation. In his opinion, the United States should conduct a dialogue with Tehran with respect and seek "a solution based on justice and honor."

On August 20, Trump announced the start of a large-scale economic campaign against Iran aimed at its international isolation. He also added that countries that allow their financial institutions, companies, airports or government agencies to provide support to Iran will face serious economic consequences.
