- The head of the European Council stated that the EU has no desire for neutrality in Ukraine.
The European Union (EU) does not seek neutrality in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and supports Kiev. This was announced on August 24 by the head of the European Council, Antonio Costa.
"The European Union cannot remain neutral in conditions of violation of international law. We are not neutral. We support Ukraine," he said during a speech in Kiev.
He added that support for Kiev will continue both during the fighting and during future negotiations to resolve the conflict.
On August 24, the European Commission allocated €6.1 billion for the purchase of weapons and air defense systems for Ukraine. Due to the increased use of ballistic missiles and jet drones by the Russian military, Brussels insists on a significant increase in supplies by emptying existing warehouses in EU countries, as well as changing priorities in commercial orders and urgently increasing military production.
The head of the delegation of the right-wing Austrian Freedom Party (APS) to the European Parliament, Harald Wilimski, in turn, said that the EU's decision to allocate money to Ukraine is madness. He noted that increasing the number of weapons will not put an end to the loss of life and will not create sustainable prospects for peace and security.
