A Peace March was held in Moldova, dedicated to the 82nd anniversary of the country's liberation from Nazism. This was announced on August 24 by the correspondent of Izvestia Vasily Moiseenko.
Chisinau residents marched through the streets of the city with flowers and flags. Earlier, local authorities refused to light the Eternal Flame at the memorial complex "Sherpensky bridgehead". In this regard, the participants of the action brought candles with them and lit them at the memorial site.
"I believe that without the past, we will never have a bright future. <...> Our ancestors gave their lives for our freedom, for our peaceful sky, we must remember," said social activist Dina Karpinski.
In addition, actor Igor Nedoseikin noted that there is pressure on Russian culture in the republic.
"There is a constant struggle. At some point, we won. Today they (the Nazis. They've raised their heads again, and they're actually crushing us on all fronts. Here in Moldova, it is visible to the naked eye: the Russian language is prohibited, <...> they are pushing on culture, they are pushing on education. <...> History is being erased," he said.
Moiseenko also noted that the commemorative march took place a few days before the military parade announced by the Moldovan leadership. It is planned to involve more than 2,000 military personnel and over 100 pieces of equipment purchased by the authorities in recent years in official events.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on August 14 that the Moldovan authorities continue to pursue a policy aimed at reducing the use of the Russian language in the country's information sphere. According to her, Chisinau continues to fight the "Soviet legacy" by dismantling monuments and exerting pressure on the opposition, which is carried out to the detriment of the residents of the republic.
