Russia sent an IL-76 firefighting plane to Serbia immediately after Belgrade's request for help. This was announced on August 23 by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

"The Russians immediately sent help. As soon as we applied, they sent it," the Tanyug agency quoted him as saying.

The President stressed that the Serbian side had received assistance not only from the Russian Federation, but also from European countries: Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Germany. According to Vucic, this shows Serbia's strength and its ability to always receive support from different sides.

The day before, Russia sent an IL-76 of the Ministry of Emergency Situations with a crew and an operational group to Serbia to help extinguish wildfires. It was noted that the request for support came directly from the Serbian side due to the difficult situation with wildfires. Later it was clarified that the IL-76 began work on the elimination of wildfires in the territory of the reserve "Deliblatskie Sands" in Serbia.
