The expert warned about the dangers of debt cancellation companies
Companies offering debt relief services often promise easy solutions to problems, but their activities do not always benefit customers. This was announced by Dmitry Khrulev, Vice President of the International Association of Mediators, on August 23.
According to him, paid support packages are being imposed on debtors, despite the fact that most of the necessary work has already been provided for by the official bankruptcy procedure. The financial manager is appointed by the court and is required to conduct the process independently of any intermediaries.
"He analyzes the debtor's property, income and transactions, interacts with creditors and conducts the procedure. If there is nothing to take from a person, it is highly likely that the debt will be written off," Khrulev explained to the Prime agency.
The specialist noted that legal assistance may be required only in difficult cases, for example, in the presence of collateral, real estate or disputed transactions. If the intermediary does not give a clear explanation of what exactly the fee is charged for, the client is being sold "an illusion, not real help."
Situations where consultants recommend stopping current payments to creditors, taking out new loans to pay for legal services, or hiding property from the court are particularly dangerous, Khrulev concluded.
