On the outskirts of Berlin, German security forces discovered a cache with two live firearms, which, according to the authorities, could allegedly be a warehouse of the Russian special services. This was announced on August 21 by the Tagesschau portal.

"We may be talking about a secret repository of the Russian special services — the so—called cache with potentially deadly contents," the article says.

We are talking about two pistols found in a wooded area on the border of Brandenburg and Berlin in the late summer of 2025. In connection with the discovery in the fall of 2025, a suspect was detained in Romania, who, according to the German authorities, could have equipped a hiding place.

Since November 2025, the German Prosecutor General has been investigating the preparation of a serious violent crime. The warehouse was left untouched for surveillance in order to identify customers or recipients, but is currently considered "dead": the criminals probably noticed the activity of the police. Nevertheless, the weapons are defused and equipped with GPS trackers to monitor movements.

Secret weapons caches were used in Soviet times for operations in NATO countries. In 2024, explosives and grenades were accidentally found during construction in Rhineland-Palatinate.

NDR reported on August 12 that children from the German municipality of Dethlingen, who were trying to find the treasure with a metal detector on the playground, instead discovered a British grenade from World War II. The place was immediately cordoned off, and the experts who arrived determined that it was a British mortar grenade from the Second World War. The ammunition was removed from the recreation area for subsequent safe destruction.
