Finland has almost completely completed the construction of a barrier complex on the state border with Russia. About this on August 21 said the project manager from the Border Guard headquarters, Erkki Matilainen.

"The barrier complex is actually ready. Finishing works are still underway," Finnish broadcaster Yle quoted him as saying.

The main part of the fence was erected in the south-east of the Russian-Finnish border, and the longest section, 140 km long, is located in the regions of South Karelia and Kymenlaakso. According to journalists, the fully completed engineering facility is scheduled to be handed over to the customer in September.

On February 6, the press service of the Finnish Border Guard reported that about 1,000 landowners would receive compensation, as their plots were affected during the construction of the fence on the border with Russia. It was expected that all the targeted fence sections would be built by the end of the summer.

The Finnish authorities announced on November 24 last year that they were erecting barriers one meter from the border with Russia. It was noted that surveillance cameras are installed on the barriers every 20 m to ensure constant monitoring of the border.
