The ophthalmologist of the highest category, Professor Arseniy Kozhukhov appreciated the methods of cataract control. In conversation with aif.ru On Friday, August 21, he noted that this disease develops due to clouding of the lens and, without treatment, gradually leads to visual impairment. It is impossible to restore the transparency of the lens with the help of eye drops: studies do not confirm that such drugs are able to cure cataracts or stop its development. They can only moisturize the eyes and reduce irritation.

Other non-surgical methods do not eliminate cataracts. Special glasses can reduce glare and increase contrast, and hardware procedures can improve blood circulation and tissue nutrition, but they do not affect lens opacity. The expert considers folk remedies like honey or aloe juice to be not only useless, but also dangerous due to the risk of infection, burns or allergies.

At an early stage, as long as the disease does not interfere with daily life, the patient may be recommended to be monitored and regularly examined by an ophthalmologist. The only proven way to treat cataracts remains surgery, during which the clouded lens is replaced with an artificial lens.

The specialist does not recommend postponing the intervention for a long time. As cataracts progress, the risk of complications increases, including impaired outflow of intraocular fluid and the development of glaucoma. In addition, it is easier and safer to remove cataracts in the early stages than in advanced cases.

Ophthalmologist Tatiana Shilova, in an interview with RT, stated that incorrectly selected glasses can provoke a headache. Glasses should be selected after a full examination. It is necessary to separately determine the refraction of each eye, check astigmatism, binocular vision, interpupillary distance and eye condition.

Ophthalmologist Victoria Sokolova said on August 11 that laser correction reduces the load on the visual system, but does not protect against age-related eye diseases. The operation can pay off in a few years due to the abandonment of glasses and lenses, notes 360.ru .

In July, doctor Angelika Kazantseva warned about the risk of early cataracts in people with light eyes. With excessive stress on the cornea, photokeratitis can develop, the symptoms of which — pain, lacrimation and photophobia — appear a few hours after exposure to the sun.

In May, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation announced that Russians with cataracts now have access to a free installation of a unique domestic lens under the state guarantee program. The Ash intraocular lens is implanted in the eye after removal of the clouded lens, writes NSN.

Before that, ophthalmologist Tatiana Pavlova told the Moscow City News agency that wearing sunglasses after the age of 40 reduces the risk of developing eye diseases, including cataracts. They are also necessary for children whose eyes are particularly sensitive to UV rays.
