The Russian government has received a "golden share" in relation to Sheremetyevo airport

The Russian government has received a special right to participate in the management of Sheremetyevo International Airport Joint Stock Company in the form of a "golden share". The corresponding decree of the Cabinet of Ministers was issued on August 21 as part of the execution of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

"In accordance with paragraph 1 of Article 38 of the Federal Law On the Privatization of State and Municipal Property, use the special right of the Russian Federation to participate in the management of Sheremetyevo International Airport Joint Stock Company," RIA Novosti quotes the document.

When alienating airport shares, conditions should be provided for prohibiting their transfer to the control of foreign persons, maintaining the main type of activity and upgrading the infrastructure. After Sheremetyevo is excluded from the list of strategic enterprises, the state gets the right to participate in the management of the company through a "golden share," the document says.

The "Golden Share" is a special right of the state or municipality to participate in the management of a joint—stock company. Such an instrument is not an ordinary stock and is not offered for sale, therefore it is impossible to purchase it on the stock exchange. The mechanism is used to protect strategic and national interests, allowing the state to maintain control over important enterprises even after the transfer of part of the shares to private ownership, explains "Газета.Ru ".

On August 6, Putin signed a decree on the exclusion of Sheremetyevo Airport from the list of strategic enterprises. Thus, the position in which the state-owned share of 30.43% of Sheremetyevo shares was indicated was excluded from the list.
