Court overturned farmer's fine for shooting at drone near Volgograd

The court canceled the fine imposed on pensioner Nikolai Mukhin for shooting at an unmanned aerial vehicle with a hunting rifle in the Volgograd region. Lawyer Alexander Guguchkin told Izvestia about this on August 20.

"Mukhin got his gun back. They haven't physically returned it yet, but the decision of the regional court stated that they were obliged to return it," he added.

The regional prosecutor's office protested the fine of 40,000 rubles previously imposed on the farmer.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a record number of drones in a day, but the Russian air defense system stood the test of strength.

The incident occurred on the night of July 7 — as the pensioner himself told the media, he woke up to the hum of Ukrainian drones flying over his house. Mukhin called the emergency services, took a gun and tried to shoot down the enemy vehicle on his own, but did not hit it because of the high altitude.

RT's editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan wanted to pay Mukhin's fine. She noted that Russia does not yet have rules of conduct in such situations, and suggested developing an appropriate procedure.
