The priest explained the spiritual meaning of the Nut Savior

The meaning of the holiday Nutty Savior is not related to the harvest, contrary to the popular name. The rector of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica in the Baltic Pearl, Priest Sergiy Kubyshkin, reminded Izvestia about this.

The priest recalled that on August 29, the Transfer of the Uncreated Image of the Lord Jesus Christ from Edessa to Constantinople is celebrated. The popular name "Nutty Savior" appeared later and arose due to the fact that the holiday falls at the time of harvest.

"You can decide that the whole holiday is somehow dedicated to the harvest of nuts. Nuts are a good thing, no doubt, but they are not the theological center of this day," Kubyshkin said.

The priest noted that on this day, believers remember how in Christ God became close to a person — so much so that you could look at him, you could talk to him, you could touch him.

"Therefore, an icon for a Christian is not a photograph of a saint, much less a religious talisman. She always points to the one who is depicted on it. When we venerate the image of Christ, our veneration is directed towards Christ himself," the priest emphasized.
